Components in Antihistamines

Antihistamines are one of the most common drugs that are used to treat the symptoms of allergic disorders. The ingredients present in these drugs can differ from drug to drug. Each of these drugs is made up of different components and the effect it causes on the symptoms is also different. There are ingredients which help in suppressing the secretions of histamine and also eliminate the symptoms of allergy to a great extent. Diphenhydramine is one of the basic and important components of antihistamines. However this ingredient also causes several side effects on the patient’s body. This is present in the first generation antihistamines medications. 

The ingredient present in the 2nd and 3rd generation drugs of antihistamine tried to get rid of the side effects that where present in early generation. The main ingredients present in them are mainly decongestants and pain relievers. Some of the medications also contained anticholinergic agents which help in preventing its secretion from the brain receptors. Chlorcyclizine hydrochloride, Brompheniramine maleate, dexbrompheniramine maleate, chlorpheniramine maleate are some of the ingredients of anticholinergic that are found in many antihistamines medications.  Apart from these contents, others vary from one brand to another and its uses.
