The main treatment that is used for treating sinus infections and allergies is antibiotics. Some of the names of antibiotics include amoxicillin, cephalosporins, and macrolides. Normally, the physician prescribes amoxicillin to treat minor sinus infections. In case where the sinus infection is too severe then the patient is required to complete approximately 14 days medication course. And in some cases where the case is too difficult, even larger term medications may be prescribed.
It is seen that people having chronic problem of sinus allergy also have breathing problems, trouble with nasal airways and inflammation of passages. In such cases steroid nasal sprays and oral steroid medications are recommended.
Other medicines that are helpful are decongestants which include oral as well as topical. And this can be continued till the antibiotic medication course.
Another helpful treatment that can be used in sinus allergies is nasal saline irrigation. This will require lesser dependence on antibiotics as it will clear up most of the infection. In moderate and mild cases, oral medications will give better results. However, when the case is serious and there is involvement of structural problems or nasal polyps then in such a case, surgery may be recommended. |
