Decongestants: Do they come with side effects?

Side effects due to decongestants can vary from person to person. Some of the common side effects observed in most of the people are as follow: people develop insomnia and nervousness that is caused by overstimulation of brain. Apart from this people face high blood pressure problems. In fact, it can get worse for the people who are already facing high blood pressure or heart problems. Some common side effects generally stay for some initial period of time and then disappear slowly. Heart related side effects are one of the worst side effects caused due to decongestants. So make sure that you inform your doctor about your various health problems so that he can prescribe the medications accordingly. 

Apart from this, they also cause problems in the urinary flow at times. When decongestants are used in the form or spray forms they can cause rebound effect. In this, the swelling of the nasal can get from bad to worse due to excessive use of drops or spray. Other not very common side effects can be loss of appetite, nausea, visual problems, headache, itchiness in the nasal area, increase in the rate of heartbeat and restlessness one can change the medications or reduce the dosage in order to avoid some of these side effects.
