Diphenhydramine belongs to a family of drug that is known as antihistamine. Histamine is an element that is released in the body. This element causes allergy related to running nose, sneezing and so on. It is a chemical naturally released and does not have any specific cause of it getting released. Diphenhydramine is commonly known as Benadryl. It comes in various forms and is useful for children and adults alike.
Histamine binds with the cells of its victim and causes certain changes in the body metabolism. These changes cause allergies which result to sneezing and common flu. It also results in increased mucus production which in turn results in throat infection and blocking of nose. What Diphenhydramine does is it competes with the histamine and prevents the effects caused by them.
It is used for treating several types of allergies. Diphenhydramine can be used to treat constant sneezing, running rose, watery eyes and some other symptoms. It can also be used to treat rashes, itching sensation, itching, suppressing cough and some mild cases of Parkinson’s disease. Antihistamines namely Diphenhydramine bind to the cells themselves in place of histamines but the difference is that they do not cause any allergy. |
