Ephedra is a spice which contains anti-inflammatory properties. Ephedrine is a component in ephedra which is used in the treatment of hay fever and asthma, but if you use it for a long time then your body will become immune to this herbal medicine.

Ephedrine is also acts as stimulant in the central nervous system to treat nasal congestion and breathing problems which is caused by allergies

Ephedrine has long history in the treatment of certain types of breathing disorders such as bronchial asthma and nasal congestion or swelling due to allergies, impurities and colds.  It also functions as a broncho-dilator and decongestant which helps to reduce the narrowing and swelling of the blood vessels in the nasal passages. It also works much like adrenaline which aids to widen the respiratory tract that helps you to breathe without any problem. 

Side Effects of Ephedra 

Even though ephedra is effective in the treatment of breathing problems, it causes number of side effects. Nervousness, anxiousness, giddiness, headache, sickness, loss of appetite or sleeping disorder are some of the side effects of this herbal spice. If you intake this spice for long time it may leads to some serious complications such as chest pain, weight loss, irregular heartbeat, continuous sweating and painful urination.
