An explanation on food allergy

Food allergy is a condition in which the human body produces an adverse immune response to some kids of food proteins. The food proteins which are responsible for triggering the allergic response in the body are called food allergens. Food allergy is often confused with other adverse responses to food like pharmacological reactions, food intolerance, and other toxin mediated reactions. Food allergy id wide spread and the numbers are rising rapidly. It can be seen from the statistics that nearly 6 to 8 percent of all children up to the age if three years are prone to food allergies. The figures are not very different in adults, with over 4 percent adults suffering from food allergy. The most common foods which are responsible for causing food allergies are tree nuts, peanuts, shellfish, eggs and fish. Some people are also allergic to milk protein found in milk and its various products like cheese, butter, and yogurt. This specific food allergy is known as dairy allergy. Food allergy should be taken very seriously as it can cause the body temperature to drop dangerously below normal levels and that has many adverse physical and mental effects on the patient.
