The Important Facts about Allergies

Allergy is a severe disorder caused to human beings and animals. Almost every human being in some or the other way is allergic to something. Substances causing allergy are known as allergens. Symptoms of allergy are characterized by running nose, red eyes, sneezing, rashes etc.

Allergy is a kind of hypersensitive reaction when the person comes in contact with allergens. There are many types of pollen which causes allergy out of which ragweed is most common. About 75% of people suffering from seasonal allergy are allergic to ragweed.

According to a report of Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) about 40 to 50 million people of US are suffering from some form of allergy. Some people are more prone to allergies or asthma after doing exercise. As a result of exercise person breaths fast and thus more pollen are brought in.

According to a report of Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) food allergy occur in 1 to 2% of adults and about 3 to 8% of children. Food allergy occurs due to substances like cow’s milk, eggs, peanuts, fish, shell fish etc.

There is confusion between food intolerance and food allergy. Food intolerance is a common thing but not as severe as food allergy.
