Facts about Dairy Allergies

Allergies to dairy are fast becoming a common disorder in both adults as well as kids. Dairy allergies refer to the condition in which a person becomes hypersensitive to egg and milk protein. Although most people do not show very strong symptoms, there are some cases when it might even to incapacitating conditions and sometimes might even need to be hospitalized for some days. It is a cause of greater worry in children as they cannot be given milk and milk products which are very rich sources of protein. As they cannot be given milk and egg they need other sources of protein so that they get enough protein for growth and development. Foods that can be considered for protein requirements in such cases are fresh fruits and vegetables. Sometimes lactose intolerance is mistaken for dairy allergies, which is an allergic condition caused by lactose present in milk and milk products and not due to the protein present in them. In dairy allergy, the immune system of the body produces immunoglobulin E, an allergic antibody, in response to the ingested milk protein present in normally harmless food products and leads to several symptoms which characterize the allergy.
