Food allergy prevention in kids

Food allergies are on the rise among all age groups, especially children and young infants. There are various ways in which food allergies can be prevented in infants. One study has proved that delaying the introduction of certain kinds of food in infants can greatly help in the prevention of food allergies in the early stages of life. Breastfeeding for the first six months without any other side foods has also proven to be beneficial in letting a child’s immune system develop properly before other kinds of food are introduced to them.

However, in many cases it is not always possible for the mother to breastfeed her children due to various reasons like time constraints, nutritional needs of the child and other commitments. In these cases it is recommended that only one kind of food be introduced at a time. Introduction of multiple foods might force the body’s immune system to reject the protein found in the food. Even if an allergic reaction does occur, this way it is easy to identify which food contains the allergen so that it can be avoided in the future. If your child is already prone to food allergies, it is best to consult a doctor.
