Are antihistamines safe for hypertension patients?

Antihistamines is one of the over the counter medicines that helps in reducing the symptoms of allergies. They are quite effective in drying up runny nose, stop sneezing, itching or several other symptoms of allergies. When used in combination with decongestant, they help to get rid of most of the allergy symptoms. However, they do have some or the other side effects on the body of high blood pressure patients most of the times either alone or with combination. Antihistamines are generally taken in combination with decongestion  which is quite effective on allergic patients but at the same time increases blood pressure especially people who are already affected by high blood pressure problems. Apart from this, they also interact with blood pressure medication and can cause several side effects. Make sure that you mention about your high blood pressure problem to the doctor so that he can give medications accordingly. In case of any problems, you can consult the doctor to change the medications or reduced the dosage of antihistamines.

Antihistamines also have high chances of interacting with sedatives and muscle relaxers. Thus people with high blood pressure have to take extra care when planning to take antihistamines alone or in combination with decongestant.
