Peanut allergy and other nuts

Peanut allergy is a kind of food allergy which is not like other nut allergies. It is an extreme allergic reaction to dietary substances especially from peanuts. This allergic reaction causes an overreaction of the immune system, which in turn result in severe physical complications. Usually peanut allergies are treated by excluding the particular diet and very attentive avoidance of certain foods which are contaminated with peanut particles or whole peanuts or oils. The extreme stage in peanut allergies leads to anaphylaxis and it is an emergency situation. Actually the exact cause of peanut allergy is still unknown. But there are some studies indicate that more exposure to soy products or soy milk may leads to peanut allergies. Several other studies hint that peanut allergy is dependent on the hereditary factors and race.

The symptoms of peanut allergy are connected to the activity of Immunoglobulin E (IgE) and anaphylatoxins, which works to release histamine and additional mediator substances from labrocytes or mast cells. Symptoms of peanut allergy can include the following:

  • Diarrhea
  • vomiting and sickness
  • Hives
  • Swelling of the face, skin, lips and throat and skin
  • Acute or severe abdominal pain
  • Eczema and inflammation
  • Asthma
  • Anaphylaxis
