Peanut allergy and pregnancy

As peanut allergy is on rise, most of the pregnant women are wondering whether eating peanuts during pregnancy period will sensitize the infant to these allergens. Even though, there are no many researches on fetal sensitization, it is considered that a baby can be exhibited to allergenic substances. If that baby has a sensitivity to raise a peanut allergy, then there is a chance for fetus to develop peanut allergy. It is better to avoid peanuts during pregnancy because if the mother or the family members has a history of peanut allergies, then your baby will surely get peanut allergy.

If you decided to avoid peanut foods then you should be very careful and aware of foods which contain traces of peanuts. For instance, most of the biscuits and cookies or granola bars are made with little amount of peanuts. So, don’t forget to read the food labels before you having that food item and just look for the cautionary notes that the product comprises traces of nuts. And also, when you go out for a dinner, look at how the food is prepared because some restaurants, especially Thai, use peanut oil and peanuts very often to prepare their food items.
