Signs indicating dairy allergy

Dairy allergies are characterized by several symptoms which vary from mild to severe depending upon the patient’s immune system’s response to milk and its products. Symptoms of dairy allergy show up as full blown diseases like eczema, asthma, gastrointestinal problems, rhinitis, pneumonia, bleeding and sometimes anaphylaxis. Primary symptoms are dermatological, gastrointestinal and respiratory in nature. These translate into vomiting, hives, skin rashes and gastric distress. It can lead to various disorders like atopic dermatitis, anaphylactic reactions, infantile colic, wheeze, gastroesophageal reflux, constipation, oesophagitis, allergic colitis migraine or headache. These symptoms manifest themselves within a few minutes after ingesting the allergen or might even take several hours. Sometimes when the symptoms occur after a few days, it is termed as delayed response. Parents should especially look out for symptoms of dairy allergies in their children as they need extra attention as far as their diet and nutrition is concerned. Extreme caution should be exercised if your child shows adverse symptoms of dairy allergy as milk and its products are found in a lot of food products which are difficult to avoid. Other alternatives should be considered for making up for the daily protein requirements for growth and development.
