What is yeast allergy?

Yeast is a form of fungi present in the intestinal tracts of humans. The presence of small quantities of the yeast poses no harm to the body, however, in case their number starts to multiply, they may result into what is known as yeast allergies. Such people may develop hypersensitivities towards the food products containing yeast. In this condition, the person develops sensitivities towards the proteins present in this organism. Due to the same reason, the immune system of the person mistakes the protein for a harmful body agent and thus produces anti-bodies against it. As a result, this defense mechanism system releases antibodies and histamines into the bloodstream to nullify the effects of yeast proteins. This leads to several allergic reactions and signs.

These allergies may arise due to one’s sensitivities towards food items containing yeast like wine, beer, bread, dried fruits, mushrooms, vinegar, peanuts and soya sauce. In case the person experiences unusual reactions particularly after consuming the above mentioned products, one is strictly encouraged to absolutely quit their intake. This is regarded as one of the best preventive measures of the allergy. One needs to be careful with the grocery shopping. It is ideal to read the ingredients of the packed food item and stay away from those products which have yeast as one of their main ingredients.
